Iranian Americans in Atlanta: Facing the Challenges of Local, National and Global Citizenship

In this interactive presentation Dr Chaichian will discuss the Iranian American community in the Atlanta metro region by placing it within the local, national and global contexts and focusing on the following issues:


  • Iranian immigrants and the new phase of globalization;
  • A profile of Atlanta Iranian Americans vis-à-vis that of other Iranians in the U.S.;
  • Debunking the myth of Iranian “exceptionalism”;
  • The extent of Iranian Americans’ participation in political and civic activities; and
  • The importance of inter-generational relations in building and sustaining ethnic communities.
